1970s Gerber Modell Maxi Dress with Pink Velvet Motifs & Gold Metallic Detailing
A striking vintage evening dress from the 1970s by Gerber Modell, combining a sweeping black velvet skirt with an intricately patterned silk bodice in vibrant pink and shimmering gold. Rich in texture and colour, this piece captures the decade’s distinctive blend of bohemian romance and evening glamour.
The fitted upper section features a black ground decorated with raised, velvety motifs in shades of pink and magenta. Stylised flowers, leafy shapes and small geometric diamonds sit within a gold metallic lattice, creating an expressive pattern with an almost tapestry-like effect. The contrast between the plush pink details, delicate black background and sparkling gold gives the fabric beautiful depth.
A flattering V-neckline opens the front, while the back has a higher neckline that allows the elaborate pattern to continue across the shoulders. Long, softly voluminous sleeves gather into deep, fitted cuffs finished with small black buttons. Their subtly sheer areas add lightness to the richly textured design and balance the more structured shape of the bodice.
A wide patterned waistband defines the silhouette and creates a beautiful transition to the black velvet maxi skirt. Falling in long, soft folds with a gentle flare towards the hem, the skirt provides an elegant contrast to the ornate upper section. The velvet catches the light softly as it moves, giving the dress a rich, fluid appearance without distracting from the pink and gold detailing.
A zip fastening runs down the centre back. The original Gerber Modell label remains inside, together with a marked size of 42. Please compare the garment’s measurements with your own for the best fit, as vintage sizing can differ from modern sizing.
A memorable choice for festive dinners, winter celebrations, evening parties or a vintage-inspired occasion. Style it with gold earrings and platform heels for a full seventies look, or keep accessories minimal and let the exceptional fabric take centre stage.
